Diverse voices from India using Twitter to discuss politics, technology, business, fashion and pop culture.
With more than 1 billion people, a sizable number of Indians are connected to the Internet and actively use social media sites.
Ranked second just behind China, India boasts 33 million active Twitter users, described as those “who used or contributed to the platform at least once a month.” The United States placed third with 23 million active Twitter users out of a population of 313 million.
Since there are more Indian Twitter users than American Twitter users, it is probably a good idea to learn more about what is happening in the Indian subcontinent.
India’s linguistic and ethnic makeup is incredibly diverse: The 2001 Census of India lists a total of 122 languages and 234 mother tongues with over 10,000 speakers. However, for simplicity sake, the following Twitter accounts to follow on India contain tweets primarily in English.
