The International Day of Charity is observed on September 5th every year. It was declared officially by the UN General Assembly in 2012.
Charity is a noble act of giving help to those people who are in need of it. It is a humanitarian act which involves giving money, items, goods or time to the needy.
The International Day of Charity was founded through a Hungarian civil society initiative with the support of the Hungarian Parliament and Government in 2011. This date is the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa who worked tirelessly to overcome poverty, distress and suffering of the poorest in the world.
This day gives us an opportunity to raise awareness in our community and take part in charity events and donate. You can try to arrange for a charity drive to collect money or a charity fun run at school. And of course, we can always support by volunteering to spend time with those needy people.
Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation works towards charitable and humanitarian work. The foundation has various charity schemes to offer help to all people.
It assists people and events such as natural disasters and wars. The foundation helps all people and countries without any discrimination.
The United Nations recognizes the need that all of us must work together to bring about a global change. As per UN SDGs & Charity, we can give global sustainable development by the following ways:
• Raise awareness about how difficult challenges are, and push for collective action in global issues.
• Enhance trust among diverse groups & build social capital.
• Eliminate societal & cultural barriers and create cohesion.
• Build resilience through community action, and enhance the sense of responsibility for one’s community.
The founder and leaders of UAE had set examples and shown the ways by which we can donate and help people all over the world.
My sister and I did a noble deed of donating food (special dinner food for two days) at an orphanage called “Anaikkum Karangal” at Chennai, India on our birthdays.
The children at the orphanage were thrilled and sang the birthday song and welcomed us. We had a very good experience and will never forget the D-day.
Hope we can help and donate to such needy people whenever we can.
